Vegan Love Loaf – Recipe

Last year I set out on a mission to save money by cooking more meals at home. I not only wanted to save money, but also benefit my little ones by teaching them how to create and make their own meals along the way.

It is a little tricky at first to wrap your head around making a quality, home-cooked meal when you’re so used to eating out and snacking on lara bars. So I make an action plan to make Every meal at home.

Each meal I created needed to contain healthy ingredients that the kids would enjoy as much as the adults. This Love Loaf recipe is a winner, for sure. It tastes great and sure does hit the spot! And what a great meal to cook for Valentine’s Day!

I present to you my vegan Love Loaf with caramelized onion mashed potatoes and mushroom gravy. 🙂

LoveLoafRecipe5

So here’s what you need:

LoveLoafRecipe1

Love Loaf Ingredients:

  • 1 small sweet potato
  • 1 medium onion
  • 2 ribs celery
  • 1 medium carrot
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 15-ounce can cannellini beans, drained and rinsed
  • 14 ounces extra firm tofu
  • 2 tablespoons tamari
  • 4 tablespoons tomato sauce
  • 1 tablespoon spicy brown mustard
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 tablespoon parsley
  • 1/2 tablespoon rubbed sage
  • 1 tablespoon thyme
  • 1/2 tablespoon dried rosemary, crushed
  • 1 1/2 teaspoon salt (to taste)
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 1/2 tablespoons nutritional yeast
  • 3/4 cup quinoa flakes (or quick oatmeal)

Preparation:

Wash a small sweet potato, bake at 400°F for 45 minutes. When it is done allow to cool, then peel and set aside.

Add the onion, carrot, and celery to the food processor. Pulse until finely minced. Transfer the minced veggies to a large heated, oiled (or you could use water) skillet. Add minced garlic. Cook, stirring occasionally on med heat until they become tender (about 10 minutes.)

Add the drained beans and mash as they cook. Remove from heat once all of the beans are mashed.

Add the sweet potato, tofu, tamari, nutritional yeast, and all other seasonings to the food processor. Process until smooth. Add quinoa flakes. Pulse until blended well.

Using a rubber spatula, add tofu mixture to the veggies and stir well.

Preheat the oven to 375°F

Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and add the entire mixture to the sheet. Have FUN with this one! You can shape it like your topical loaf, a heart, or whatever funky shape you desire. I was feeling lovely and so I shaped mine into a heart.

Here’s how it looked before it was cooked.

And here’s the finished product-

LoveLoafRecipe3

For the Mashed Potatoes:

LoveLoafRecipe4

Ingredients:

5 lbs red or gold potatoes (I don’t peel mine, but you could if you prefer them that way)

1/4 cup Earth Balance, (or coconut oil) divided

1lg sweet onion, minced

1/2 cup pine nuts

1/4 cup tofutti vegan cream cheese

1/4 cup vegan sour cream

1/4 cup almond milk

freeze dried scallions and fresh parsley for garnish

Preparation:

In a large pot, bring 8-12 cups of water to a boil. Add a pinch of salt and carefully add the quartered potatoes to the boiling water. Cook for about 40 minutes.

While the potatoes cook, sauté the onions in 3 tablespoons Earth Balance until golden and translucent. Add the pine nuts to the onions and continue to sauté until pine nuts are toasted (about 4 minutes) remove from heat.

When potatoes are done cooking, carefully drain them and add back to their pot. Add the caramelized onions, pine nuts, vegan cream cheese, vegan sour cream, and almond milk. Mash the potatoes to blend a savory, creamy, delicious side dish. Top with scallions and additional pine pines if you would like, and garnish with fresh parsley. Enjoy!

These yummy potatoes are a family favorite. While my vegan food used to get turned down at family event, I’m now asked to make and bring things. 🙂 Although I think you could eat these just the way they are, gravy is always a nice touch, especially for this Holidays.

If you would like the gravy recipe, which you MUST try because it is by far the BEST vegan gravy I’ve ever had.. you can find it Here. I hope you love this meal as much as we do!

Rebel really wants a plate!

No Parent Should Live Without This..

onGuard2

OnGuard Essential Oil Blend is a life saver! If you have children, or go in public ever, you need this blend!

Forget hand sanitizer. Traditional hand sanitizers contain isopropyl or ethyl alcohol. These ingredients can be harmful, especially if accessible by children.

You can easily make your own hand sanitizer using aloe, fractionated coconut oil and OnGuard blend. You can also add Melaleuca (tea tree oil) and lemon for added anti-bacterial properties.

Aside from hand sanitizer, there are several other ways you can use OnGuard…

on_guard_uses1

You can also add 2-3 drops to the bottom of your (or your kiddos!) feet.

After many years of going through the “back to school” sicknesses and “beginning of winter” coughs & sniffles, our family has been completely sick-free for over a year now! This is a huge change for our older son, who was asthmatic and used to be up ALL night coughing throughout the winter months. We all sleep so much better. 🙂

Would you like to try a FREE sample of OnGuard? I’d be more than happy to send you some! Once you’ve tried it, you will not want to live without it. ❤

Leave a comment below if you’d like a sample.

Love and health always,

The Essential Oil Blend I Wear Daily

Serenity_doterra123

Ahhh, Serenity. I LOVE this calming, Zen inducing blend.

Stress is a major contributor to illness and disease. In fact, it is estimated that more than 90% of all visits to health care professionals are related to stress.

How stressed are you? Wouldn’t you like to spend your life in a more serene state? 🙂 Well, you can! It’s so easy!

How To Use Serenity Essential Oil Blend:

Apply 2-3 drops to the bottom of your feet at bedtime to promote restful sleep.

Add 2-3 drops to a warm bath to create a peaceful, renewing aroma.

Apply to aromatherapy necklace to help relieve anxiety.

Diffuse to help promote relaxation and decrease stress. I love to diffuse Serenity when I practice Yoga too! It is such a lovely addition to all my yoga practice 🙂

My kiddos also enjoy the Serenity Blend diffused at night and they calm down significantly faster than they ever would before introducing essential oils into our lives. ❤  If you have a hard time getting your children to bed, you have got to give this a shot. You will not be disappointed!

Last but not least, it smells fantastic! This is officially my absolute favorite aroma, and I wear it daily.

How do you use Serenity?

Much love & light to you!

xoxo Angela

How to Live The Life of Your Dreams – Career

 image

Breakthrough: Why am I here??

You are here to LOVE. You are here to share your gift with the world. You have something special inside of you, and the world is in need of your contribution. How could you not share your gift?

Is it money? How the hell am I going to make money sharing my gift?

Sound familiar?

Well, be authentic! Be you! We all have something to offer in this world, and we’re all looking for something, and willing to pay to get it. That’s how we all make a paycheck. You’re either working for someone else, or you’re working for yourself. One way or another, if you want to turn your dreams into a career, you need to provide a product or service.

image

We all want to live the life of our dreams, right? If not, then why would you dream it?

Dreams come from the depths of your soul. Dreaming is your first step to success. But don’t stop there!

Allow me to tell you a little about myself and my dreams:

I am a lover of the Earth and all her inhabitants. [even the grumpy ones!]

I am a lover of all things positive and bringing [unlimited] happiness to myself and others.

I am a lover of growth, renewal, and authenticity.

I am a lover of wholesome, organic foods which provide my body pure, clean energy and wellness.

I am a lover of moving my body – in which ever way she pleases.

I am a lover of all things beautiful and right within this wild world we share.

So what the hell do you think I should be doing with my life?!

I think I should share my love, happiness, and wellness with those who need it most!

I spent my fair amount of time second guessing myself and my dreams, until the day I finally said, “I just want to HELP people.” That was that. “But how?” I thought.

Remember when I said product or service? People need something from you! What is it? What do you have to offer ?

Here’s process for GettingShitDone:

What is your purpose? __________

What do you have/want to offer this world? __________

((Don’t spend too much time here. Often times, this is where people get stuck and never move forward with their dreams. You’ve had your whole life to figure out what speaks to you. What speaks to YOU is what you need to share with those out there who haven’t heard it yet! Don’t worry about the money. Just don’t. It will come with your genuine delivery of what someone else is looking for.))

Can you deliver? [of course you can!!] ___________

What are the ACTION STEPS that you need to take to get you from where you are today, to where you dream of being?

Step 1: __________

Step 2: __________

Step 3: __________

Step 4: __________

As many steps as it takes, write them down.

If you have some uncertainties as to what it takes to achieve your specific goal, don’t stress, remember, everything – is – figureoutable. Figure it out! You can.

Now, approach each step one at a time (in order) and guess what will happen?

Your dreams WILL come true! Inevitably, you will be rewarded with the results you desire.

Do not, I repeat, do not doubt yourself.  The moment you doubt yourself is the moment you stop trying, and the moment you stop trying is the moment you fail.

little by little (or a lot by a lot, depending on you!), you will be making things happen. With each accomplishment you are creating a shift in your life.

You can do this!

Oo La La Lavender

DoterraLavender1NutritionalEquilibriumshare

I’m often asked what I use lavender essential oil for. I have bottles of it all over the house. 😉

Lavender is divine. Such a calming and beautiful aroma.  Aside from that though, there are many uses/benefits of lavender.

– About Lavender –

Lavender is an oil that has been used for millennia and noted for its cleaning and healthful properties.  Through modern scientific testing its time proven properties have been confirmed.  It is one of the most popular of the essential oils. There are multiple types of Lavender (from different plants) so it is important to have lavandula angustifolia. The preferred Lavender is steam distilled from the flowering tops of plants with some of the finest quality from Europe. DōTerra Lavender is steam distilled from the flowering tops of plants from France (fine high altitude) and Bulgaria (super high altitude).  These are joined together in equal ratios.

Nutritionalequilibriumlavender

Here’s a great list of the many uses for lavender!

Body and Mind

  1. Target Acne, at the Source: Bacteria thrive in sebaceous glands that over produce sebum…that waxy stuff that can be associated with acne. Lavender helps balance sebum and control break outs.
  2. Minor Burns, Major Relief: When you’ve slightly overdone it in the sun, a little lavender oil is helpful in preventing peeling skin. It aids in your skin’s healing without scarring as well!
  3. First-Aid Relief: Lavender has disinfecting properties. It’s great for the skin, and wonderful for relief from cuts and scrapes, especially if the cut or scrape is located wherever it’s difficult to keep covered. Basic First-Aid kits are often geared toward minor skin irritation, scrapes, rashes, and so forth.  Lavender is great for all those, not to mention its calming properties!
  4. Diffuse and Apply Topically For Beauty Sleep: Ahh, I LOVE to diffuse lavender essential oil. (As well as Serenity blend, which contains Lavender!). This puts my kiddos & I to sleep so fast. 🙂 Just a couple of drops applied to the soles of the feet and/or pillows helps to calm and sooth them so they actually want to go to bed, and 10 minutes of diffusing and they are in dream land.
  5. Alleviate Feelings of Earaches:  Slightly warm lavender, mix with olive oil and gently massage around the ears (not in the ears) and near glands in the throat.
  6. A Hood of Wonder: Next time you have a cold or the flu, remember the lavender steam hood. Add 4-6 drops to a bowl of hot water. Place a towel over your head, and inhale the vapor slowly and deeply.
  7. Horrific Heels & Foot Fatigue: If you’ve been wearing sandals all summer, and your heels need some help, 8 drops of lavender in a hot foot bath is the answer. Your porous feet will thank you.
  8.  Dry Climate relief: If you suffer from dry, itchy skin, or even eczema and don’t want to mess around with chemical smelling lotions, or steroid creams, add lavender to fractionated coconut oil and comfort will be yours!
  9. Lavender Oatmeal Face: Fill a baby food jar with oatmeal, and add 5-8 drops of lavender oil.  When it’s time to wash your face, add water and it becomes an excellent natural scrub! A little goes a long way.
  10. Target Acne, at the Source: Bacteria thrive in sebaceous glands that over produce sebum…that waxy stuff that can be associated with acne. Lavender helps balance sebum and control break outs.
  11. A Woodworker’s Friend:  Do you work with wood or handle wood? Rather than dig a hole in your finger trying to catch that splinter, add a few drops of lavender, let the splinter swell and slip out.
  12. Allergies, Sinuses & Congestion :  Lavender can calm down unruly sinus issues, defiant allergies and other respiratory issues. Just apply on the back of your neck, and chest.
  13. Rub a Dub Dub: Rather than using regular soap and warm water at baby’s bath time, add about seven drops of lavender oil to the warm water.  Your tot’s skin will be pampered and smell great!
  14. Soak Away Stress: Your muscles are tight. Anxiety and deadlines are eating at you. Your heart is racing. Where’s the pressure release valve?  Right here, with lavender. Add to a warm bath, soak it in, soothe.

Home Use

  1. Take the Bite Out of It: Insects, are not too fond of the smell of lavender. In fact, they hate it. If you forget to go the prevention route, lavender soothes bites, itching and inflammation.
  2. Therapeutic Dish or Laundry Soap: If your liquid soap smells a bit flat, especially if you’re using an all-natural blend, you can add lavender for additional aromatherapy benefits and antibacterial properties. It transforms your cleaning experience!
  3. Lavender candles: Ahhh the long lost art of candle making. If you’ve ever made candles you know how fun it can be. When you add lavender, the smell that is released is intensely therapeutic!
  4. Skip the Aerosol Chemical Sprays: Next time you are deodorizing the bathroom, think of lavender and water in a spray bottle. Lavender’s antibacterial, antibiotic, antiviral, antiseptic properties can only help.
  5. Lovable Linens: What does your linen closet smell like? Probably cotton. Maybe old cotton. Energize your linens with lovely smelling lavender.  It leaves no oil marks and leaves things invigoratingly fresh.
  6. Wood Floors, Like New: A tired wood floor is, well … tired. Commercial floor polishes often contain harsh chemicals. Woods love oil.  Just add lavender to your cleaning system and your floor can look like new!
  7. Help That Trusty Ball Cap: A well-worn, much loved ball cap can look great, but smell like a wild animal. Add 4-5 drops of lavender to make it bearable. It will be your favorite hat if you have a headache too!
  8. Homemade Room Freshener: Put baking soda and a 5-6 drops of lavender oil in a small Mason jar. Punch holes in the lid. Place in smelly areas (near garbage can, dirty clothes), shake jar often. Smile.
  9. Pet Smells No More: Add a skiff or two of your baking soda and lavender mixture to carpets and vacuum up!  If you have pets, (especially the un potty trained variety), fight back with lavender!

Cooking

  1. Bake Like the Best: Lavender is a nice addition to lavender blueberry banana bread, lemon lavender cookies, lavender sugar cookies, lavender muffins, lavender cakes, lavender frosting. You could gift a ball jar of lavender infused goodies!
  2. Soften Citrus Flavors: Use in delicate lemon sauces or in powerful orange marmalades, citrus salads, real lemonade and more!
  3. Amazing Marinades and BBQ: Baste on the grill with maple syrup or a garlic and rosemary blend, spread over roasted vegetables, marinade tofu or fruit pieces in maple & lavender, yum!
  4. Tea: Are you a tea enthusiast? Have you hadlavender in your tea yet? You m u s t try!

Is that all? Probably not. The uses are endless!

What do you use lavender essential oil for? 🙂

Meet Miss Holistic Health Practitioner

NutritionalEquilibriumEvent2

Hello everyone!

It’s me! 🙂

This was my table at a wellness fair at a local wellness center, All Natural Training and Wellness in Salisbury, Mass.

((Where I will soon be teaching group fitness classes! Are you local? Would you be interested in trying a free class?!))

I had so much fun promoting my holistic health coaching and pure essential oils!

So, what exactly does a holistic health coach do? Well…

You can watch this video for a quick answer:

Coaching involves a conversation where one person listens and then advises another person on any subject matter. Over time this term has been used for coaches in education, athletics and music.

As a holistic health coach, I encourage individuals to explore their inner strength and wisdom, improving their confidence and making changes and improvements from within.

The health coaching model is embedded in the fields of psychology, social work, nursing, eastern philosophy, holistic health and wellness management.

A wellness vision is a creative statement by the client that reveals his/her highest potential and can include nutritional, physical, emotional, social, spiritual and financial realms of their life. A new life vision empowers one to see new possibilities along with a specific and clear direction, which can be manifested through inner creativity, wisdom and power. It allows one to activate their imagination and then think, feel, speak and ultimately see the manifestation of their unified highest potential. A wellness vision is a tool a health coach uses to help the client move to new levels of wellbeing by connecting the client to their own truth and wisdom that is held within.

The manifestation of a wellness vision is done through the process of goal setting. Goal setting is a collaborative behavior change technique used between the coach and the client. During the motivational interviewing process, after strengths, values and desires are determined and the client’s vision is set in place, specific goals are set so the client is able to move in the direction of his/her newly formed desires.

In other words, we help transform your dreams into reality!

I can help you work through your frustrations and uncertainty. Through the good days, and the not so good days.

Are you living the life of your dreams? What action steps could you take to make your life reflect your desires?

If you would like to know more about me, what I do as a health coach, my programs or how you could become a heath coach, please feel free to email me! HealthCoachAB@gmail.com (or comment here!) I would be more than happy to help!

Much Love and light to you!

Nut Butter RECALL – Salmonella Contamination

Nutritionalequilibriumalmondbutter

Warning folks: A whole slew of nut butters are contaminated with Salmonella, which is an organism that can cause serious infections. Every year, Salmonella is estimated to cause about 1.2 million illnesses in the United States, with about 23,000 hospitalizations and 450 deaths. Most persons infected with Salmonella develop diarrhea, fever, and abdominal cramps 12 to 72 hours after infection.

I’m pretty upset about this to say the least. I just finished off a jar of Whole Foods 365 Organic Creamy Roasted Almond Butter 16 oz. which is included in this recall along with other varieties of Whole Foods 365 brand as well as Arrowhead Mills, MaraNatha, Kroger, Safeway & Trader Joe’s.

Click here to read the firm press release on the recall from the FDA.

Hopefully you wont be effected by this possible health risk!

Please share with your friends and loved ones who love nut butters as much as you and I. 😉

Love,

Angie

Purely Essential: Top 7 Uses For Essential Oil of Peppermint

Pure Essential Oils

The first time I ever tried pure essential oils was when I received a free sample from a friend who is a Wellness Advocate with doTERRA International. I remember my 2 year old had the hiccups. Not just gentle hiccups, but those violent almost painful hiccups. I remembered reading that peppermint oil could cure the hiccups in seconds and of course, I thought back to all those “cures” from when I was a kid myself trying to get rid of pesky hiccups. I figured, “what do we have to lose?”

2 drops of peppermint oil on the back of his neck and 1 second later, the hiccups were gone, vanished!

DoterraPeppermintBeadlettesNutritionalequilibrium

I couldn’t believe that my mom didn’t know this. I couldn’t believe the whole world didn’t know this!

Then I got a headache. I happened to be talking with my Wellness Advocate friend, and she said “3 drops of peppermint oil on the back of your neck!” 🙂 I thought, “waahht?”

3 drops of peppermint oil on the back of my neck, and 10 minutes later, my headache was completely gone! How much would you pay for something that you do not have to ingest, and it takes away headaches (and hiccups!) in minutes? Oh, and it’s completely natural, not poisonous to your liver. Contains no pesticides, synthetic chemicals or additives. 100% pure essential plant oil.

🙂

If you don’t believe me, please, request a FREE sample. ( HealthCoachAB@gmail.com) I would be happy to send you one! You can put it in your medicine cabinet, and when the time comes, it will be there for you. Just make sure you come back and tell me how amazed you are! That’s my favorite part of sharing! 🙂

So obviously those are my personal top #1 & 2, Here’s 3-7….

3.) Sore Muscles: Because peppermint oil has analgesic, anti-inflammatory and anti-spasmodic properties, it not only can relieve pain and inflammation but can also calm the spasms that cause muscle cramps.

  • Dilute with fractionated coconut oil and rub entire area which is sore.

4.) Stress Relief: Like many other essential oils, peppermint is able to provide relief from stress, depression, anxiety, and mental exhaustion due to its refreshing nature.

  • For stress relief, combine peppermint & lavender essential oils to help relieve tension while absorbed through your body’s largest organ: your skin.
  • Aromatherapy is amazingly effect as well. If you are new to diffusing or have yet to try, I highly recommend it! You can find diffusers for as little as $15.00.

5.) Energy/Alertness: Peppermint oil powerfully affects and improves mental clarity and raises energy levels. If you’re trying to cut back on caffeine, this may be a blessing to your mid-afternoon lull.

  • Rub a drop of oil under the nose to help improve concentration and alertness.
  • Diffuse Peppermint oil in the room to improve concentration and accuracy.
  • Apply to the back of the neck and shoulders repeatedly to keep energy levels up during the day.
  • Inhale before and during a workout to help boost your mood and reduce fatigue.

6.) Colds/Congestion: Menthol provides effective relief from many respiratory problems including nasal congestion, sinusitis, asthma, bronchitis and the common cough & cold. It is often an ingredient in natural chest rubs to help with congestion.

  • Massage 2-3 drops (along with a carrier oil) onto chest or drop into a humidifier to help clear sinus and lung congestion.
  • If you’re head is feeling stuffed or you can’t stop coughing, try a peppermint essential oil steam. Pour boiling water into a metal or glass bowl, and add a few drops of essential oil (On Guard blend, eucalyptus and rosemary are good combinations with peppermint). Drape a towel over your head and position your face 10-12 inches above the bowl and breathe in the steam.

7.) Indigestion: One of the oldest and most highly regarded herbs for soothing digestion is peppermint. Peppermint oil is very helpful in digestion asithas a carminative property of expelling gas (from the stomach or intestines so as to relieve flatulence or abdominal pain or distension).

  • Massage several drops on your abdomen, place a drop on wrists, or inhale to soothe motion sickness or general nausea.
  • Drinking mint tea has long been the antidote to an upset stomach.
  • Inhaling peppermint oil is also said to help curb the appetite by triggering a sense of fullness.

Those are my top 7 uses for peppermint essential oil. 🙂 There are many, many more. I encourage you to do some research on these amazing essentials.

What do you use your essential oils for?

I would love to hear from you! 🙂

Much love & light,

Angela
